Can we talk about how we used to just apply for jobs online and hope for the best?

I mean, for years I'd just send my resume into the void. Then I started calling the shop directly about 2 days after applying, just to ask if they got it. Got my current gig that way after the manager said he appreciated the hustle. Anyone else find a simple phone call still cuts through the noise?

My local coffee shop hires almost everyone who walks in and asks for the manager. That basic human touch is a cheat code now.

That coffee shop near the library had a help wanted sign up for six months. Susan350, are you telling me I could have just walked in and talked to someone? I spent two hours filling out an online form for them that asked for my high school GPA. They never even called. What's the point of all those applications if a simple conversation gets you the job?
