Can we talk about the recruiter who straight up asked my salary in the first 5 minutes
Was on a call last week with a staffing agency in Dallas and she asked my current pay before even saying the job title, and when I pushed back she goes 'well I need a number to work with.' I gave her my range instead and the role disappeared by Friday, so now I'm wondering if I should just say a number first next time. What do you all do when they ask early, do you give a real figure or hold the line?
Why would you hand over your real number in the first five minutes when she won't even tell you the job title? You already did the right thing giving a range, and if that made the role vanish, she was probably fishing for a lowball number to sell you cheap. Hold the line next time and make her talk about the job first, because a good recruiter will.
