Had to pick a job offer: big company with a long commute or a small startup with a weird interview.

Got two offers last month. One was from a huge tech firm in the city, but the drive was 90 minutes each way. The other was from a tiny startup where the CEO asked me to solve a puzzle about squirrels during the final interview. I picked the startup because I hate traffic. It's been three weeks, and my main job so far has been naming their office plants. Honestly, has anyone else taken a job for a silly reason that turned out okay?

But naming office plants for three weeks? That sounds like they don't have real work for you yet. Are you worried about the job's actual duties, or is it just a slow start?

Three weeks is a long time to only name plants. Brian303, you hit on my exact worry. I'm not sure if this is just a slow start or if the job duties are actually that light. I took this role for real work, not busy tasks. I need to figure out if I should bring this up with my manager or wait it out a bit longer.

Hey, maybe they're testing your patience on purpose! Some places do that to see how you handle slow periods before giving you real work. I'd wait one more week, then ask your manager a casual question about upcoming projects.
