Heard a senior dev say 'the best code is the code you don't write' during a meeting
It made me stop adding 'nice to have' features and just focus on the main task. Has anyone else had a simple quote change how they approach their work?

Watched a buddy refactor a whole feature down to basically nothing after his lead said "perfection is the enemy of good enough." He saved a week of work and the thing runs faster now. That phrase really stuck with him.

Your buddy's story is a good example, @michael880. Sometimes the extra code we write is just us fighting the compiler, not helping it.

my buddy was working on this reporting module for months. kept adding more and more features thinking he was making it better. his senior dev finally looked at it and told him to just ship the basic version first. he cut like 70 percent of the code and the thing ran smoother on day one. the senior was like you were trying to build a sports car when we just needed a bicycle. that story always stuck with me too.
