Hit $250k in billings and it caught me off guard

I do freelance copywriting from my place in Boise and just checked my year-end spreadsheet. $250k in total billings, which sounds great, but my take-home after taxes and software subs is way lower than I expected. I actually thought I was still around $180k because I keep my rates modest per project. Anyone else hit a revenue milestone and realize the real number stings a bit more than the headline?
