I thought networking groups were a waste of time until I got 3 job leads in one month

Back in 2019 I blew off a local BNI chapter meeting because I figured it was just people swapping business cards and making small talk. My buddy kept pushing me to go, so I finally showed up to one in Austin just to shut him up. The second meeting I attended, a guy mentioned his company was hiring for a role that fit my resume perfectly. I applied that week, got an interview, and ended up working there for 2 years. Now I hit up a different networking event every quarter just to see what sticks. Has anyone else changed their mind about these groups after giving them a real shot?

Oh man, is that how it felt for you too? I swear I tried dating apps for like two years and all I got was one awkward coffee date and a guy who kept asking if I could fix his truck. Then I went to a car meet completely by accident, met someone who actually laughed at my jokes, and bam, we're two years in now. Funny how the real thing never happens when you're looking for it, right?
