My manager said "just Google it" was bad career advice

He told me to stop relying on Google for every coding problem and actually read the documentation... turns out reading docs first saves me like 2 hours a day. Has anyone else had a boss give advice that sounded wrong but ended up being totally right?

Wait isn't reading documentation just Google but with extra steps?

Nah man I gotta hard disagree there. Documentation is actually written by the people who built the thing, so it tells you exactly how it's supposed to work. Google just gives you a pile of random forum posts and outdated blog tutorials that might be completely wrong for your version. When I'm debugging something at 2am, I don't want to sift through ten results trying to figure out which one is actually relevant. Reading the docs upfront saves me way more time than searching for answers later. It's like having a map instead of just wandering around asking strangers for directions.
