PSA: That casual 'looks fine' feedback almost wrecked my project timeline

My manager told me my code was 'good enough' and to move on, but I pushed back and asked for specifics. Turned out she hated my error handling but didn't want to hurt my feelings. Has anyone else had a boss hold back real criticism like that?

Did your manager ever explain why she didn't just tell you about the error handling in the first place? I once had a boss who praised my frontend work for weeks until a client complained, then he admitted he thought my CSS was a mess but didn't want to "demotivate" me. It would've saved a lot of headaches if he'd just been straight with me from day one.

Yeah @ivan873 that "didn't want to demotivate" excuse is such a cop out. It's like people think holding back the truth is being nice but really it just makes problems bigger down the road. I see this everywhere not just at work, like neighbors who won't tell you your fence is leaning until it falls on their car or friends who let you keep making the same mistake over and over. Straight talk saves so much time and frustration in the long run.
