The boss who told me "drive time doesn't matter" still haunts me

Back in 2018 I was working dispatch for a small trucking outfit out of Oklahoma City. One day I questioned a load that had us running 14 hours straight with no drop off nearby. The owner, this older guy named Carl, pulled me aside and said "son, drive time doesn't matter, just get it there when it gets there." I actually listened to him for like 6 months until I realized he was basically telling me to break federal hours of service rules to save his margins. Eventually I quit after I saw three drivers get pulled over and fined because of his "flexible" scheduling. How do you even push back on someone who treats safety rules like suggestions?

Carl sounds like he knew what he was doing.

That one comment blew it out of proportion pretty fast, didn't it?
