Two resume styles, one recruiter in Denver, night and day results

Honestly, I used a fancy two column template with icons and skills graphs for months. Got maybe one callback out of 40 apps. Switched to a plain single column, bold headers, and bullet points that start with numbers like 'cut response time by 20%' after a recruiter in Denver told me her system couldn't even parse the old one. Tbh, it felt boring but I got three interviews in two weeks. Has anyone else had their ATS-friendly layout beat a pretty one that fast?

Recruiter told her system couldn't even parse the old one? Man, that part got me. I figured those fancy templates were at least readable, just maybe not ideal. But straight up unreadable? That means months of my time and probably yours just went into a void, like the robot was looking at a blank page the whole time. Three interviews in two weeks after switching sounds crazy fast, but it kind of makes sense if the first version never even counted as having your name on it. Feels like the pretty layout was working against you harder than anyone would guess.
