Chat with my dad about a tricky miter cut

He told me to stop fighting the saw and just shim the fence with a piece of cardboard, which felt wrong but worked perfectly. I've been overcomplicating things for years. Anyone have a simple fix that felt like cheating but actually saved the day?

Sometimes the best trick is just letting go of the idea that there's a "right" way to do it. Your dad's hack proves the goal is the cut, not the method.
