Cut a 2x4 exactly 1/8 inch short on a big deck frame in Boise

I was rushing to finish before dark and my tape measure hook was bent, so the cut was off. I had to sister a new piece on with three extra joist hangers, which took an hour. Do you guys ever just live with a small gap like that, or is it always worth fixing right away?

Before dark" is a deadline that has cost me more time than it's ever saved.

Was that in a productivity book?

Yeah but I think people miss the real problem with "before dark". It's this weird pressure that makes you rush through everything without actually finishing anything properly. You end up half doing five different things instead of just finishing one thing and moving on. And then the next morning you're trying to remember where you left off and it's a mess. The sun sets whether you're ready or not and all that stress just builds up for nothing. I'd rather set a timer for actually finishing a task than watch the clock run out on daylight.
