I switched from a standard 7 1/4 inch circular saw to a worm drive for framing and it's a total game changer for control on long rips.

After fighting kickback on a 12-foot pressure-treated deck board last month, I finally listened to an old-timer on site who said his worm drive has 30% more torque and the weight sits right over the blade for way smoother cuts, so has anyone else made this switch and what's your take?

My contractor buddy swears by his worm drive for cutting thick beams. He says the inline motor gives you way better balance when you're pushing through heavy lumber. I'm definitely considering one after my last saw tried to walk off the plywood.

Ugh that's the worst when your saw tries to take off on you! @ninam76 your buddy is totally right about the balance thing. I switched to a worm drive a few years back and it made cutting thick stuff way less of a fight. The weight sits different so you're not wrestling it the whole time. Honestly felt like a game changer for any real heavy duty work.

Totally feel you there. That weight shift makes a huge difference when you're really leaning into a cut. Glad it worked out for you too.
