Is it just me or does the 2x4 war actually matter? My framer boss changed my mind

For years I bought whatever SPF 2x4s were cheapest at the lumber yard in Phoenix. My old framer boss watched me grab a twisted batch for a load bearing wall and just said 'you're gonna fight that for 3 days, go pick the straight ones.' He made me hand select every stud for that job, and yeah it took an extra 40 minutes but we saved way more than that in shimming time. Now I cant unsee it, do you guys sort through the pile or just grab and go on big builds?
