Shoutout to the old church in Salem with the hand carved pews

I was there last month to give a quote on some trim repair and got a good look at the work. The guy who built them in the 1920s used a hidden wedged tenon joint on every single leg, something I'd only seen in books. It's a ton of extra work but those pews are solid as a rock after a hundred years. What's the most clever old school joinery you've seen still holding up?

Ever notice how old stuff was just built to last?

Used to believe that was just nostalgia talking. Then I tried to fix my grandpa's old radio versus my new smart speaker. The difference in what's inside, the parts you can actually hold and replace, is night and day.
