Spent 2 years installing crown molding backwards, noticed when my helper pointed it out
I've done crown molding for a long time, about 2 years full time. Always set the spring angle the same way, nailed it up, looked fine to me. Then last Tuesday my helper squints at a piece and goes 'uh, isn't the detail supposed to face the ceiling, not the floor?' I looked closer and sure enough, the profile was upside down. The shadow line looked wrong but I never noticed because the rooms had tall ceilings and bad lighting. Thing is, nobody ever said anything. Not the homeowners, not the GC, nobody. So I redid the last three rooms with the correct orientation and it looks way better. Has anyone else had a basic thing they got wrong for ages and only caught it because someone younger or newer pointed it out? How do you catch stuff like that when it becomes habit?

Kinda like wearing your shirt inside out for a year, right?
