Took me three months to figure out my new miter saw was set up wrong

I kept getting these tiny gaps in my crown molding joints and just blamed my cuts. Then my apprentice pointed out the fence wasn't square to the blade, it was off by maybe 1/16th over 12 inches. Anyone else have a tool setup mistake that took way too long to notice?

That "last thing you check" is only true if you stop checking after you find it.

Oh man, the "blamed my cuts" part is so real. I spent a whole weekend re-cutting baseboard before I realized my speed square was bent. The tool was lying to me the whole time. It's always the last thing you check.
