Went to a job site in Austin and noticed every framer switched to engineered lumber
I was down in Austin last week helping a buddy with a deck, and the framing crew next door had zero dimensional lumber on their lift. All I joists and LVL. The foreman said they stopped ordering 2x10s because the price swings were worse than lumber futures. He claimed the waste dropped maybe 15 percent since they switched. Ive been framing with solid pine for 15 years and it felt weird to see. Is engineered stuff taking over everywhere or is that just a Texas thing? Anyone else seeing this on their sites?
Man, people love to make everything sound like the end of the world. Engineered lumber is fine for some stuff, but solid wood ain't going anywhere. One crew in Texas switching over doesn't mean the whole industry flipped.
