Cutting carpet squares for a whole day before the homeowner asked why I didn't just use the grid lines

I was installing carpet tiles in a big office space in Charlotte, had about 800 square feet to cover. Spent the first three hours of the job meticulously measuring and cutting each tile with my hook knife to fit around the edges and columns. My back was killing me from kneeling. The building owner comes by to check progress, watches me for a minute, and goes, 'Son, those tiles have a grid printed on the back for scoring and snapping. You know that, right?' I flipped one over. Sure enough, clear as day. I'd been doing commercial jobs for two years and never noticed. Just always reached for the knife. Felt like a total rookie. Anyone else have a basic tool or feature they overlooked for way too long?

Yeah, the "perforated lines" thing is so real. I spent a whole weekend trimming laminate planks with a saw before my dad showed me the scoring tool that came in the box.

My buddy did something similar with those interlocking foam floor mats. He was trimming every single one with scissors until his wife pointed out the perforated lines. Sometimes the easiest solution is printed right on the product and we just miss it.
