My stretch jobs started looking way better once I ditched the power stretcher for the last 3 feet
I do mostly rentals and flips around Akron, so speed matters, but about 6 months ago I noticed my corners were bunching up on maybe 1 out of every 4 rooms. A guy named Dale who has been laying carpet for 31 years watched me run a power stretcher right up to the wall and just shook his head. He told me to pull the last 3 feet by hand with a knee kicker and a stair tool so I can feel the backing instead of guessing. I tried it on 12 rooms over the next month and the wrinkles at the baseboards basically stopped. My shoulders hurt more at the end of the day, but I am not going back for callbacks anymore. Any of you old school guys still do a hybrid like this, or am I just slowing myself down for no reason?
