My uncle said to always double-check the tack strip on stairs, and it saved a job yesterday.
He told me to tap every single piece with the hammer handle before laying pad. I found three loose ones on a set in a Tacoma remodel. Anyone else have a simple check they do that catches problems early?

Heard a similar tip about checking for squeaks by walking the subfloor before underlayment, ever try that?

Yeah, I always do that now (learned the hard way). Mark the squeaks with tape so you don't miss them later.
