PSA: A job in a Phoenix attic taught me a new trick with a knee kicker

I was doing a small bedroom install last week, super tight corner by a closet. My power stretcher head wouldn't fit at all, so I grabbed my old knee kicker as a last try. I put a scrap piece of carpet pad under the kicker's teeth, just a small square, and it gave me way more grip without tearing the backing. Got a perfect stretch in that corner. Anyone else ever try something like that with a pad scrap?

Ever try that trick on a really old, brittle carpet? I'd be scared to even touch some of the stuff I've seen lol.

Yeah some carpets look like they'd turn to dust if you breathe on them. @derekp70 what's the oldest carpet you've actually had to work on?
