PSA: Put a strip of masking tape over the tackstrip when you're stretching into a doorway, saved me 20 minutes
I was doing a 12x15 berber at a place in Overland Park on Tuesday and the doorway into the hallway kept snagging my kicker every single time I reset. I mean the teeth on that tackstrip were grabbing the nap and pulling it back out of the doorway, so I was fighting the same corner over and over. Anyway I grabbed a scrap of 2 inch masking tape and laid it right over the tackstrip in the doorway, just the top of the teeth, and the carpet slid across it smooth as anything. Pulled it up after the stretch, kicked the carpet down into the strip like normal, and the seam at the door came out flat on the first try. Maybe this is obvious to you guys who've been at it longer but it felt like a real find at the time. Has anyone tried tape on a stair nose or does it slip too much on the angle?
