Pulled up 40 year old shag in a Springfield duplex and found hardwood that nobody knew was there
Got called out to a duplex in Springfield two weeks ago to swap out some nasty green shag that had been down since about 1983. Pulled the first strip back near the hallway and saw actual oak underneath, not plywood like I expected. Turned out the whole living room and both bedrooms had never been covered before, the shag was glued straight to finished floors back when the place was built. Homeowner came in, stared at it for a second, then asked me if I could just leave it bare and skip the new carpet entirely. Anybody else run into a job where the old floor turned out better than what you were hired to put down?

Buddy of mine had the same thing happen on a flip over on Grant Ave. He pulled up some gross orange carpet and the pine floors under it looked better than anything he was gonna buy at the store. He ended up just sanding and sealing them and made more on the house than he planned.
