Shoutout to that old 12-foot seam roller I almost tossed

Honestly, I saw a seam I did with it 5 years ago next to one from last week with a new one, and the old one's seam is still invisible. Anyone still using those heavy steel ones from the 90s?

Remember those old steel ones were often cast iron, not solid steel. The weight came from the material, not just the size. That heft is what gave you such a clean, lasting seam because it didn't bounce or flex. Newer aluminum rollers just can't press the adhesive out the same way. I keep mine in the truck for any serious vinyl job.

Saw a video where a guy restored one of those old cast iron rollers. He said the weight distribution is totally different, makes it roll smoother under pressure.
