Shoutout to the guy who told me to always check for floor vents under the old pad
I was tearing out a 20 year old carpet in a Denver split-level last month, and this old-timer I know said, 'Kid, run your hand under that pad before you pull it all up.' I almost didn't, but I did... and my hand went right through a drywall patch covering a floor vent. The homeowner had no idea it was there. If I'd just ripped it up, I would have dropped tools right into the duct. Has anyone else found hidden stuff like that?

A drywall patch over a floor vent? That's a new level of weird.

Right? I once found a wall outlet that was just painted over, like five thick coats of paint. You could barely see the outline. The previous owner must have just kept rolling right over it. I also had a kitchen cabinet that opened up to a solid brick wall. Not even a little shelf, just bricks. Some people should not be allowed to own tools.

Check if the heat was even working in that room. They basically blocked the whole HVAC system for one vent, which messes with the air flow everywhere else. That's a special kind of DIY stupid.
