Stopped by a carpet showroom in Nashville and saw something that bugged me
I was in Nashville last week picking up supplies and popped into this big showroom off I-65. They had all these fancy patterns and textures laid out but the guy showing me around kept pushing some super thin, low pile carpet that felt like cardboard. Everyone seems to love that stuff now for the clean look but I swear it won't hold up to any real foot traffic or furniture shifts. Have any of you guys had to go back and rip out that thin stuff after just a couple years?

Bet you that low pile stuff is just glued down with no proper padding underneath, that's where the real wear happens. You can put cardboard on the floor and it'll feel fine for six months if nobody drags furniture across it.

Yeah, have you ever tried putting a thick foam pad under that low pile stuff? I did that in my last rental and it held up way better than I expected after two years of foot traffic and the occasional couch drag. Just glued the pad down first, then the carpet on top, and it never buckled or wore thin like the cheap stuff usually does.
