That "new carpet" glow up in my client's living room was wild

I did a job last month for a lady in Oak Park who had this nasty old beige carpet that looked like it survived a decade of kids and a couple of dogs. The before was just sad, matted down paths, dark spots near the door, and the padding was basically dust. She picked out a medium gray plush carpet, nothing fancy, just a solid mid-range option from the local supply house. After we stretched it in and trimmed it clean, I stepped back and honestly couldn't believe the difference. The whole room looked bigger, brighter, and like it got a fresh coat of paint without actually painting anything. It's crazy how much a floor swap changes the feel of a space, even with the same furniture and layout. Has anyone else had a job where the client was shocked at the before and after?

Watched a friend rip up green shag from the 70s and the whole room smelled like basement for three days.

Three days seems dramatic, most smells air out in an afternoon with the windows open.

Smelled like basement for three days" is honestly an understatement. That 70s shag carpet is basically a time capsule of every spilled soda, pet accident, and mystery stain from the last 50 years (all locked in there like a gross museum). I bet they even found a few coins and a half-eaten bag of chips from the Nixon administration under there. Three days sounds about right for that funk to fully move out. Hope they burned that carpet in a cleansing ritual or something.
