Watching a DIY video on carpet seams made me question everything I was taught about adhesive.
I saw a homeowner in a tutorial skip the seam sealer on a polyester berber, and it’s going to fray and pull apart in under a year because that fiber type needs the sealant to lock the stitches, not just the tape.

Wait, you saw them skip the sealer on a berber? That's a guaranteed fail. The tape holds it down, but the sealer is what actually glues the yarn bundles together so the edge doesn't just unravel.

My buddy skipped the sealer on a berber and his edge started unraveling in a month.

My uncle's been installing carpet for 30 years and he never uses sealer on berber, just really good tape. His work holds up fine.
