Changed my mind about buying in South End after seeing a house in Villa Heights

I was set on a condo in South End because of the walkable spots, but my agent showed me a 3-bedroom fixer-upper on Pegram Street for $475k... the yard and space just felt different. We went with Villa Heights, and after six months, the quiet street and slower pace were totally worth the longer drive to work. Anyone else pick a neighborhood they didn't expect and end up loving it?

Quiet street and slower pace" is the dream. I was so sure I needed to be in the middle of everything. My first place was above a bar that hosted open mic nights. I learned more about bad poetry than I ever wanted to know. The quiet street I ended up on just has a guy who occasionally yells at squirrels, which is a major upgrade.

Squirrel guy sounds better, but is it really that deep?
