Skipped the Dilworth bungalow for a fixer in Plaza Midwood and my $40k gap is now $180k
Everyone on here keeps saying buy renovated in Dilworth or you are throwing money away. Last spring I looked at two places 10 minutes apart: a turnkey bungalow off East Boulevard listed at $615k, and a 1948 ranch near Central Ave at $410k that needed a new roof and full kitchen. My agent pushed me hard toward the Dilworth one because it would appraise clean, but the math said the gap plus updates was way less than the price difference. Two years in, I put about $95k into it and the house appraised at $590k last month, while the Dilworth place has barely moved. Has anyone else here passed on the safe renovated listing and come out ahead on the fixer?
