TIL carpet gets slammed in Charlotte updates, but I kept mine in NoDa

Just finished my floor redo here and all the trendy tips said to swap carpet for hardwood. I think carpet adds warmth and muffles sound from the light rail, which is a big plus in these older spots. Is carpet really that bad for Charlotte homes or are we just following trends?

The light rail noise is a real thing in NoDa, so that's a smart call. The main issue with old carpet isn't the style, it's that it holds onto dust and allergens over the years. A good quality, newer carpet with a proper pad can actually be a solid choice for upstairs bedrooms.

My NoDa carpet probably dates back to the disco era.
