Warning: our brand new HVAC system failed after 3 months in our Ballantyne rental
We put in a high end Trane unit last October and the compressor just died last week. Cost us $1,200 for the emergency service call and partial repair. Has anyone else had issues with newer HVAC units in Charlotte new builds?

Oh jeez, that's brutal. A brand new Trane dying after three months sounds like a straight up lemon, not normal wear and tear at all. You might want to see if the installer can help you push Trane for a warranty claim since that emergency bill shouldn't be your problem.

Picked up the phone myself and called Trane directly. That's what worked for me when my unit died after four months back in 2021. The installer kept giving me the runaround but Trane's customer service was actually pretty helpful once I explained the situation. I sent them photos of the compressor and the install date on the unit, plus the emergency service bill. They ended up covering the whole $950 repair and sent a check for the emergency visit too. You gotta be firm but polite and keep asking for a supervisor if the first person says no. Also make sure you have the serial number handy from the outdoor unit, that speeds everything up a lot.
