Why does no one tell you to check the flood plain map before you fall in love with a house?
I put an offer on a place off Reedy Creek last month and my agent pulled the flood map the night before we signed. That whole street sits in a zone AE and the seller never said a word about it. My insurance quote came back at $3,400 a year on top of the mortgage. I had been house hunting for 5 months and never once thought to look at the FEMA map myself. Now I pull it up on my phone before I even get out of the car at a showing. Did any of you get surprised by flood insurance numbers after you were already under contract?
