Figured out a knife sharpening trick that actually saved my station

I was struggling with keeping my chef knife edge during lunch rush last week. Decided to try a ceramic honing rod instead of my usual steel one, just to see what would happen. That thing made a huge difference - kept the edge way longer and I only had to do it once mid-shift instead of three times. Anyone else had better luck with ceramic over steel rods?

Honestly, is this really that big of a deal? "Saved my station" feels a bit dramatic for switching out a rod. I've used steel rods in kitchens for years and never had to hit my knife three times in a single shift unless my blade was already messed up. Ceramic rods are fine for touch-ups, sure, but they're also way more brittle than steel. Drop it once and you're buying a new one. Plus if you're actually sharpening mid-shift that often, maybe the problem is your cutting technique or your board, not the rod material. It's a tool, not a miracle.
