Vent: I counted my knife callus scars last night and got to 9, and that's when it hit me
So I was sitting at the bar after close last night, just having a shift beer and waiting for the bus, and I started messing with this rough patch on my palm. Got curious and counted the little scars and nicks I've picked up over the years. Nine. Nine different spots on two hands from burns, slips, and one really dumb moment with a mandoline at a spot in Austin back in 2019. I knew I'd been doing this a while, but seeing an actual number on my own skin hit different. Most of these came from rookie stuff too, like grabbing a pan handle without a towel or rushing a brunoise when the tickets were stacking up. Nine sounds small until you remember each one bled during a service and I just wrapped it and kept going because that's what we do. Anybody else ever stop and actually count their battle scars? I feel like half the guys I work with couldn't name where they got theirs.
