Picked a whip over a rotary brush for a 1920s colonial last week and my arms are still mad at me
So I had a job last week on a 1920s colonial over in Worcester with a flue that had not seen a brush in maybe 15 years, and I had to pick between bringing my rotary setup or just going old school with a whip. I went with the whip because the rotary head was too big to get past a slight jog in the liner, and honestly it worked out fine, the creosote was flaky and came right off. But it took me almost two hours of hand spinning that thing and my shoulders felt like I had done a full workout. The rotary would have cut that down to 30 minutes if it had fit, no doubt. I keep telling myself I should just buy a smaller rotary head, but every time I look at the price I talk myself out of it. Curious what you all do when the flue jogs like that, do you keep a few different sized rotaries on the truck or just grab the whip and deal with it?
