Pulled 4 inches of creosote out of a Cincinnati flue last Tuesday, same house I cleaned 14 months ago
This was a rental on the west side, and the tenant had been burning wet wood the whole time because the landlord told him it was cheaper. When I did the first sweep in March of last year the flue looked normal, just light soot. Last week it was a different story. Glazed creosote all the way down, thick as a pencil in spots. I asked the guy what changed and he said he'd switched to wood he cut himself and never let it season. That's the whole thing right there. Green wood plus a choked down stove equals creosote, every time. I told him to get two years ahead on his wood or buy kiln dried, and he looked at me like I was selling him something. Anyone run into landlords telling tenants to burn unseasoned wood to save money? I see it more and more.
