Rant: A client in Boulder thought I was a literal chimney sweep from a movie
I was setting up my gear at a house last fall when the homeowner came out. He looked at my vacuum and brushes, then asked, 'So, do you sing and dance like Dick Van Dyke?' I just stared for a second before saying, 'No, but I do have a better accent.' He laughed and said he was disappointed I didn't have a top hat. It was a quick job, but he kept calling me 'Bert' the whole time. Has a customer ever mixed you up with a cartoon character?

That's hilarious, but at least Bert is a solid character. Got asked once if my ladder work made me like Mario from the old Donkey Kong game, which was a weird comparison. Made me feel like I should have been throwing barrels instead of fixing gutters, lmao.

Mario's whole deal is saving the princess from a giant ape... Bert just wants to eat his sandwich in peace on a roof. The comparison falls apart when you realize one is a fantasy rescue mission and the other is about avoiding your neighbors. A ladder is just a tool, not a power-up. Throwing barrels would probably get you fired from any real gutter job.

Huh, I don't know if I'd call it THAT deep. It's just a funny comparison someone made on the spot, not some whole breakdown of character motivations or whatever. Feels like people overthink this stuff when really it's just a dude on a ladder who happens to remind you of a video game.
