Dead battery at a charging station in Phoenix taught me the backup plan lesson

I was 40 miles from home near the 101 freeway when my EV suddenly dropped to 5% charge because the fast charger map showed a working unit that was actually offline for maintenance. The next station was 12 miles away, and I barely coasted in with 2% left, feeling my heart pound the whole way. After that, I started keeping a printed list of three nearby charging sites in my glovebox, not just the phone app. Last week, the same thing happened to a friend who only planned one stop, and he had to wait 3 hours for a tow truck. Has anyone else built a rule about never trusting a single charger location, or do you just gamble like I used to?
