Last month was so hot I finally installed a window AC unit

June here in Phoenix was brutal, 110 degrees for like two straight weeks. I've always been a ceiling fan and open windows kind of person, trying to save power and cut my carbon footprint. But after day three of my bedroom hitting 90 at midnight, I caved and bought a small Energy Star unit for $180. The kicker is my electric bill only went up $12 for that whole month because I kept the blinds shut and used a timer. Made me wonder if we're overthinking some climate sacrifices when a little comfort doesn't actually wreck the planet. Has anyone else found a middle ground where you cut emissions but still stay sane during heat waves?

Yeah I read somewhere that like 20% of residential AC usage is wasted just because people run it all day when they're not even home. That timer thing you mentioned makes a huge difference. I've been setting mine to kick on an hour before I get back from work and it's still cool enough without running it for ten hours straight. It's weird how we get stuck thinking it's all or nothing, like either you suffer through a heatwave or you're running your AC 24/7. That $12 bump is honestly way less than I would have guessed for a whole month.

The 20% waste stat is crazy when you think about how many people just leave their AC blasting empty houses all summer.
