My city's new compost pickup seemed like extra work, but I gave it a shot
I was sure the bin would smell and attract pests, but after using it for three months, my regular trash has gone down by half. The city of Portland sends weekly emails showing how much waste gets turned into soil instead of going to the dump. It's a small thing, but seeing the numbers made me a believer. Has anyone else had a local program change their mind about something?

My apartment building in Seattle tried a compost program last year. It just made a mess in the shared bin area and we got fined for contamination. They canceled it after six months.

I read that contamination is the biggest reason these programs fail in big buildings.
