PSA: My local library in Boise had a 'fix it' day that changed how I see my old stuff

They had volunteers show people how to repair small appliances and sew clothes instead of throwing them out. I fixed my 5 year old toaster and patched two pairs of jeans in an afternoon. Has anyone else found a good repair cafe or similar spot in their town?

That "fix it" day sounds awesome. Our community center does a monthly repair meetup where people bring broken stuff and figure it out together. It saved my favorite lamp last month. Where did you find out about the library event?

Saw a flyer for it at the local hardware store, taped right by the lightbulb aisle. The librarian told me they started it after noticing how many people were just throwing away small appliances. My neighbor fixed his toaster there last week, said someone showed him how to replace the heating element for like three bucks. Seems like these events are popping up everywhere now.

Seriously? It's just a toaster. Most people will just buy a new one because it's easier. These events are a nice idea but they won't change much.
