Serious question, has anyone else noticed the air getting clearer in Salt Lake City over the last 5 years?

I used to see the inversion layer like a thick blanket every winter, but now I can actually see the mountains most days. Is this from the new state emissions rules or just a lucky weather pattern?

Yeah, it's been a huge change. I remember not being able to see the foothills for weeks, and now it's rare to have that. Feels like the clean air rules are finally doing something, doesn't it?

My friend moved away for a few years and just got back. He drove in from the east and called me, completely confused. He said he could actually see the whole skyline from the highway, which never used to happen. He thought he'd taken a wrong turn because the air looked so different. Pretty wild to have that be someone's first clue they're home.

The 1970 Clean Air Act amendments kicked in hard here. My dad took photos of the valley from Ensign Peak in 1974 and you literally couldn't see the city through the smog. Kinda cool your friend got to experience that contrast firsthand.
