That cashier at the co-op changed my mind about buying local

I was at the Springfield co-op last Saturday buying avocados from Chile, and the cashier just said "you know those traveled 5,000 miles, right?" without any judgment. She pointed to the local farm apples 3 feet away that cost half as much. Has a random comment from a stranger ever made you rethink a habit?

Noticed how one low pressure comment can stick with you way longer than any ad or lecture ever could. People get defensive when you tell them what to do but a simple observation like that just sits in your head until you make the switch yourself. It's like the most effective persuasion is the kind that doesn't even try to persuade you.

oh man, this is so true it hurts lol. i had a coworker once just casually say "you seem stressed lately" and that was it, nothing else. didn't tell me to take a break or change anything but it planted this seed in my head and i ended up switching up my whole routine weeks later. ads and lectures just make me feel like i'm being bossed around and i tune them out on purpose. but a simple offhand comment like that feels like getting a peek into someone else's head and it makes you actually reflect. it's wild how much more power those little nudges have compared to all the loud advice people throw at you.
