That one week in Phoenix where the AC couldn't keep up broke me

Last July we had five days straight above 115F in Phoenix, and my 3-year-old AC unit just couldn't handle it. The indoor temp hit 88F by 3pm each day, and I was running our window units on top of it just to sleep at night. It made me realize how much we take modern cooling for granted, and how much worse it's going to get. Has anyone else had their home systems fail during extreme weather events like this?

That one week in Phoenix where the AC couldn't keep up broke me" really stuck with me. It feels like these extreme weather events are becoming the new normal, but our infrastructure wasn't built for them. I've noticed at the restaurant, our walk-in cooler has been struggling to keep temp during the heatwaves too, and it's only five years old. We just assume things will work like they did ten years ago, but the conditions are changing faster than the machines can handle.

Used to roll my eyes at people saying climate change was making things worse. But after my own AC went out for three days straight last August, I get it now. The old way of doing things just doesn't cut it anymore.
