Threw $300 into a backyard solar setup and it barely charges my phone
Bought a couple of used panels and a cheap inverter off Craigslist last spring, but I didn't check the wiring before I hooked it all up - fried the controller on day one. Anyone else get burned by DIY solar gear that looked like a deal?

Oh man, did you match the panel voltage to the controller rating? I blew up my first charge controller too (felt like such a dummy). What finally worked for me was grabbing a basic PWM controller from a hardware store, not the fancy MPPT one I tried first.

Burnt my hand checking if a hot wire was live, learned real fast to buy a multimeter first.
