Tried a neighborhood composting pickup for 6 months, unexpected smell problem
Honestly, I signed up for a local composting service in Austin back in March, paid $22 a month for weekly pickup. I thought I was doing great for the planet, separating food scraps religiously. But after about 4 months, my kitchen bin started smelling like rotting eggs no matter how often I rinsed it. I learned the issue was the paper liner they gave me, it trapped moisture and created this anaerobic mess. I switched to a stainless steel bin with a charcoal filter and now it's fine. Has anyone else dealt with this, or did yours stay odor free the whole time?

Honestly, I bet half the smell issue isn't the bin, it's what people toss in there. Things like avocado pits or citrus rinds break down way slower than you'd think, and they sit there rotting and stinking before pickup day even rolls around.
