I finally asked the old timer about his tool offsets after 8 years of struggling
This guy Jerry who's been running a Haas since the 90s told me to stop using math and just bump my offsets by .002 every pass until the part cleans up. I ignored him for a year thinking he was lazy, but after I crashed a $400 block of 6061 last Tuesday I tried his way and it saved me 3 hours. Anyone else get handed advice that seemed wrong until you were desperate enough to try it?

That old timer knew what he was talking about. Bumping offsets by feel cuts out all the overthinking and gets you to a good part way faster than trying to math it out perfect every time.
