I finally found out what spindle load actually means for tool life

I been running a Haas VF-2 for about 3 years now and always just ignored the spindle load meter. Figured it was for guys who overthink everything. Then last week I was reading a setup guide from the machine manual that came with it and saw a section that caught my eye. It said running over 90% load for more than 10 seconds can literally warp the tool holder taper. I measured my last job and I was hitting 95% on rough passes. No wonder my holders were starting to wobble after 6 months. Has anyone else noticed their machine acting weird after pushing spindle load hard?

Read a forum post last month saying the same thing about warping holders.

Oh man, that's wild! A buddy of mine tried those same holders and after about three weeks he noticed his frames were starting to bow out on one side. He didn't think much of it at first but then one of his lenses literally popped out while he was cleaning them.
